This study assessed the effect of a 6, 7.5 and 35% hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel on shear bond strength and bond failure site of brackets bonded with a resin-modified glass ionomer (Fuji Ortho LC, GC Europe, Leuven, Belgium). One hundred-fifty bovine mandibular permanent incisors were randomly divided into 10 groups; each group contained 15 teeth. Bleaching treatment was performed immediately at 2 different times before the bonding procedure. One hundred-fifty stainless steel brackets were bonded with the resin-modified glass ionomer. Following, all samples were stored in distilled water for 24 hours and then tested in shear mode on a Instron machine. ANOVA and Tukey’s test showed statistical differences between the groups whose teeth were treated with 7.5% hydrogen peroxide and the control group. However, no statistical differences were found for the other groups (P > 0.05). With respect to adhesive remnant index (ARI), the majority of fractures occurred at the bracket/composite interface. Despite the decreased shear bond strength, the bonding of teeth whitened with different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide was found to be strong enough to resist mechanical and masticatory forces.

Effect of different intracoronal bleaching methods on shear bond strength of ceramic brackets bonded to bleached enamel: An in-vitro study

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of different intracoronal bleaching methods on the shear bond strength and site of failure of ceramic brackets. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty freshly extracted human maxillary incisors were randomly divided into four groups (n = 15). Endodontic access cavity was prepared and root canals were filled, root fillings were removed 2mm apical to the cementoenamel j...

Shear bond strength evaluation of resin composite to resin-modified glass-ionomer cement using three different resin adhesives vs. glass-ionomer based adhesive

Background: The clinical success of sandwich technique depends on the strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) bonding to both dentin and resin composite. Therefore, the shear bond strength (SBS) of resin composite bonded to RMGIC utilizing different resin adhesives versus a GIC-based adhesive was compared. Materials and methods: In this in vitro study, 84 holes (5×2 mm) were pre...

Effect of Ascorbic Acid on Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets Bonded with Resin-modified Glass-ionomer Cement to Bleached Teeth

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Bleaching can considerably reduce shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded with composite adhesives. Application of antioxidants is a method to reverse the negative effect of bleaching on composite-to-enamel bond. However, the efficacy of antioxidants in increasing the SBS of brackets bonded using resin-modified glass-ionomer cement (RMGIC) has not been studi...

Microleakage comparison of resin modified glass ionomer and OrthoMTA used as a coronal barrier in nonvital teeth bleaching

Background and Aim: Common causes of dental discoloration include trauma, drugs, genetic defects, decay, and age. In order to correct discoloration of pulpless teeth, internal bleaching is recommended. The aim of this study was to compare microleakage of resin modified glass ionomer and OrthoMTA used as an intraorifice barrier in non-vital bleaching. Materials and Methods: In this experimental ...
